چکیده

m h m a s b The ASGE Technology Committee provides reviews of existing, new, or emerging endoscopic technologies that have an impact on the practice of GI endoscopy. Evidencebased methodology is used, performing a MEDLINE literature search to identify pertinent clinical studies on the topic and a MAUDE (U.S. Food and Drug Administration Center for Devices and Radiological Health) database search to identify the reported complications of a given technology. Both are supplemented by accessing the “related articles” feature of PubMed and by scrutinizing pertinent references cited by the identified studies. Controlled clinical trials are emphasized, but in many cases, data from randomized, controlled trials are lacking. In such cases, large case series, preliminary clinical studies, and expert opinions are used. Technical data are gathered from traditional and Web-based publications, proprietary publications, and informal communications with pertinent vendors. Technology Status Evaluation Reports are drafted by 1 or 2 members of the ASGE Technology Committee, reviewed and edited by the Committee as a whole, and approved by the Governing Board of the ASGE. When financial guidance is indicated, the most recent coding data and list prices at the time of publication are provided. For this review, the MEDLINE database was searched through March 2010 for articles related to endoscopy in patients with “colon polyps” by using the key words “colon polyp,” “colon adenoma,” and “colon neoplasm” paired with “colonoscopy,” “third eye retroscope,” “cap-fitted,” “cap-assisted,” “transparent cap,” “retroflexion,” “endoscope,” “colonoscope,” “detection,” and “wide-angle.” Technology Status Evaluation Reports are scientific reviews provided solely for educational and informational purposes. Technology Status Evaluation Reports are not rules and should not be construed as establishing a legal standard of care or as encouraging, advocating, requiring, or discouraging any particular treatment or payment for such treatment.

Radioiodine avid adenomatous colon polyp in a post-treatment whole body radioiodine scan

A 47 year old female with papillary thyroid carcinoma was referred to our department for post-treatment whole body iodine scanning. The acquired images revealed a focal zone of intense radiotracer uptake in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen. SPECT/CT fused slices showed a focal zone of the radioiodine (131I) uptake in the right colon wall. Colonoscopy revealed a pedunculated po...

Fold removal in CT Colonography: A Physics-Based Method

Computed Tomographic Colonography (CTC) produces 2-d and 3-d images of the colon using computed tomography (CT). The main goal of CTC is to detect small lumps on the colon surface called polyps, which are known to be precursors to colon cancer. Radiologists are therefore interested in exploring the inner surface of the colon to detect polyps. Polyps may be detected by visual inspection of colon...

Heuristic Classifier for Observe Accuracy of Cancer Polyp Using Video Capsule Endoscopy

Methods: Colonoscopy is a technique for examine colon cancer, polyps. In endoscopy, video capsule is universally used mechanism for finding gastrointestinal stages. But both the mechanisms are used to find the colon cancer or colorectal polyp. The Automatic Polyp Detection sub-challenge conducted as part of the Endoscopic Vision Challenge (http://endovis.grand-challenge.org). Method: Colonoscop...

Investigating the Relationship between Red Blood Cell Distribution Width and Early Detection of Colorectal Cancer and Colonic Polyps

Background: Colorectal cancer is a common cancer and has a high rate of mortality and morbidity. This can be reduced by screening tests. Some of the studies have recently referred to Red Cell Distribution Width (RDW) as a marker for early detection of various cancers. The aim of this study was to investigate the RDW and early detection of colorectal cancer and polyp. M...

3D Colon Object Reconstruction Framework in CT Colonography

Colorectal cancer, also called colon cancer or bowel cancer, includes cancerous growths in the colon, rectum and appendix. It is the second leading cause of death caused by cancers and the third most common form of cancer in the United States [1]. Computer tomographic colonography (CTC) is a minimally invasive technique and rapidly evolving diagnostic tool for the location, detection and identi...

An open source implementation of colon CAD in 3D Slicer

Most colon CAD (computer aided detection) software products, especially commercial products, are designed for use by radiologists in a clinical environment. Therefore, those features that effectively assist radiologists in finding polyps are emphasized in those tools. However, colon CAD researchers, many of whom are engineers or computer scientists, are working with CT studies in which polyps h...
